Hey guys, I am new to your forum but have read some good information on here. I have a question for anyone who has had experience with Shockwave bullets. I shot a good size whitetail this morning twice from approximately 50 yds away with 250gr Shockwaves and 150gr of Triple Seven. The shot placements were one in the chest and one in the shoulder. Mr. Superdeer never went down. He was bleeding like crazy and I tracked him for 7 hours. The blood trail kept getting smaller and smaller and I lost him. I am really ticked off about this. After reviewing the whole thing in my head, I have come to the conclusion that the Shockwaves must not have penetrated enough to provide a lethal wound. Anyone else have an experience like this>???

That's the load in my muzzleloader. I've never had any problem. I've shot deer with it from 5-75 yards and never had one run more than 20 yards.

Sorry about the lost deer,
John

I have heard nothing but good things about this load. I guess it is a freak occurance. As a sportsman I am upset not only because I lost the deer but because I had to leave him wounded. Can't win them all I guess. Thanks for the information and the sympathy.

I let him go after the shoulder shot because it was a solid shot and with a regular rifle would have beendown shortly. He went down into a draw that bluffed up below him, so I thought he would bleed out in that draw. I let him sit for about half an hour or so because he couldn't get out of that draw without me seeing him. Sure enough, he came out the other side. He was too far away for a shot with a smoker and I trailed him from there. I could see the wound, shot placement couldn't have been much better. I guess he clotted up in that draw. That was the last I saw of him.

Personally I like the sabot rounds for my TC Hawken, seems like what I shoot piles up after 30,40 yards with a solid lung heart shot.I dont take long shote,35 to 40 yards, like em close cause I shoot open sights. My Hawken likes the sabots better than a round ball or maxi ball for some reason. But I only use a 95gr powder charge, dont load up on powder and my gun does just fine.
