what r some good ways to practice shooting during the non hunting season just basic target shooting in your back yard if a shooting range isn't available? is that the best way r there any other tips you guys could offer

Go buy a pellet gun but make sure you get one with a decent trigger on it. Got some time to kill? Whip out the pellet gun and kill some targets, cans, apples whatever you like. You won't believe how good this can make your rifle shooting. Try shooting groups at 10 yards and see how tight you can get them. Anything as long as you're shooting and concentrating on shooting properly.
Keep the tradition alive, teach a kid how to hunt.

i have a red ryder bb gun lol will that work or do i need something a little more powerful i can't use a scope with it

That will work just as well. Anything to keep you in the frame of mind to concentrate, squeeze the trigger and keep your head down.
