question about my rifle

Postby custom102004 » Sun Aug 21, 2005 7:16 pm

i have bought a (7x57) 7mm mauser, and i have been reading in a magazine that it is one of the top 5 elk rifles recomended or picked. i dont know why the casing is just a little bit bigger than a 270 and the bullet is a little smaller just seems a little light for elk to me. if anyone has better info bout the mauser being a good elk gun i am all ears
a kill isnt what makes the hunt successful, but it sure helps

Here's some more info on that particular cartridge. In the general comments...pretty much says it all. Will do anything you want it to do.

How would you rate the .30-06 for elk?

Glad to hear...I want to hunt elk in 06 in Colorado with my 700 Remington 30-06. I have heard from some that it is a little weak, but the consensus lately seems to be that it is a great elk gun.

I hunt elk all the time with my 30-06 weatherby and I have all the faith in the world into that gun. Alote of time it anit the gun thats the problem, its the shooter makin poor shots. Practice with your gun and go out and kill something. :D

More bulls are cut down by a 270 or 30-06 than other rifles. It's fine, I'd load up some 180's and keep your shots under 400 yards.
