Rabbit hunt

For those of us who enjoy the pursuit of the little critters too.

Rabbit hunt

Postby deerhunter4life » Mon Dec 03, 2007 9:33 pm

Well today I decided to take rabbit hunting for a whirl, seeing that there was a bit of snow on the ground. So me and my younger brother went out back in the field and startedstomping on everything and sure enough after 10 minutes we had our first rabbit on the run, rolled him at 30 yards with the 12 gauge with 7/8 z of 8's (less is always more) then about 10 seconds after we get back into the search another one jumps out, I shot him at about 25 yards. Then I handed my brother my 12 gauge and I took his .22 and we started pushing again, we managed to jump one more and he shot and missed. All in all great evening rabbit hunting, will give the little bro (15) the 12 gauge first next time and let him have at the first couple rabbits.

Awesome. I would like to see people small game hunting more often. I mean I love to deer hunt, but I believe a lot of kids are missing out on some cool opportunities because no one will take them small game hunting. Keep up the good work.

I love deer hunting as well, but I think to get a kid into hunting take him/her to your best rabbit spot and let the (safely) start shooting, they like constant action, at least I know I did.

Good points. I think that's a lot of us started. Just plugging away at squirrels and rabiits can be almost as much fun as hunting for a monster buck.

I thought I would post a picture of me with tonights dinner.
For me hunting any buck in general is a blast, I have yet to shoot one lol the time will come though. I am thinking about getting a doe permit and hunting the late antlerless deer season, see if I can put some venison in the freezer yet this year.

My dad and grandpa started bringing me otu with them when they went squirrel and rabbit hunting at the age of ten. Those were some of the best experiences of my younger years.

Now, I love to squuirrell hunt, and squirell meat is some of the best meat i ever ate.

My dad always used to take me groundhog hunting. It was always fun, we had 2 really good spots where you would just lay prone with a 22-250 with a 24X scope with a bipod and just scope the field and every 5 minutes KABOOM!
I think the longest shot I made (mostly luck) was at 600 yards when I was 10 years old. You have to hold pretty high to hit them things at that range, it took me 5 shots to hit him.
Most shots were within 250 yards, but that occasional attempt at a really long shot kept it even more interesting.

I definately wouldn't hunt rabbit if that was where I was deer hunting. I hunt deer in the field behind my house if the farmer plants corn around it as they love to bed down in it, but when they plant soy beans like they did this year they don't even show up, not enough cover to move safely is what I am figuring.
