Remington 22-250 or 223

Postby HarryL » Tue Jan 20, 2004 10:46 am

I'm getting bored with my rimfire, and I'm having an issue deciding what rifle to buy next. I heard that the 22-250 burns barrels out fast, anyone experience this? I'm looking at a shooting bench rest, and possibly hunting small game at times. Price is the big factor (I'm in school) Any advice would be much appreciated!

ive heard a lot of talk about the new 223WINCHESTER SUPER SHORT MAG (223WSSM) there suposed to be the fastest thing out there. Ive seen a few coyotes that have been killed at well over 400 yards with one "so they said"i didnt witness them being shot but ill take there word for it. i have a 7mm wsm and i like it a lot they say that short and fat is where its at now a days .

I have a 22-250 Savage w/ Nikon Titanium 3.3x10 scope and I absolutely love it. I also have a .243 H&R w/ 44 mag scope, it hits harder but is deffinately not as fun to shoot.
I'd go w/ the 22-250 if you want to vaporize some pests  or do some long range shooting.
As far as cost, the Savage is the best bang for the buck. Get the Accu-trigger, it is an amazing element on a low cost gun :D

I'd go with the .223, it's a fast, flat shooter. and if you're a good shot, then you can't go wrong with it. I like my Savage .223, it's brought me several good bucks. and like the other guy says, it's a damned good price for the weapon.

For your needs I'd go the .223, lots of cheap surplus ammo out there. You can step up to the 22-250 when you have some more cash flow coming in to buy your reloading supplies.

definetly go with the .22-250, we have a really nice Remington 700 Varmint chambered in .22-250, it has a 6-18x Redfield Scope on it and man is that thing deadly. Groundhogs are in trouble at 400yds

I bought the 22-250 myself. Supposedly the ammo is so much more. But from what I can see around me, the ammo might be a dollar more for a box. Whooppee... I plan on reloading anyway. I don't think it really matters a hoot on whether you pick a .223 or a .22-250. Just "try on" the guns in the store. If you already own an ar-15 or a variant I'd go for the .223, otherwise go with your whim.
