Nikon makes some pretty nice optics in that price range.

check out swift scopes. i bought one for my 270 and when compared to a nikon buckmaster i couldn't tell much of a difference other than the price. not that i'm knocking nikon its just that i saved about $40.

leupold makes a very nice scope called the rilfeman they have one that is 3-9 x 40 and a higher powered version of 4-12 x 40 i have the higher powered one i paid 250 for it and its a great scope the lowered power version will run u about 200 bux but there both great leupold only has one standard for their products unlike nikon simmons burris...they make good scopes and they also make cheap scopes and what i ment buy leupold has one standard even though these scopes are cheaper than sum of their other products they still have the same quality of a 500 dollar scope thats why i got the rifleman and you can pick up either one of these at walmart
U CANT KILL IT IF U DONT SHOOT IT

Im a big leupold fan. They have a great warranty. But then again a lot of other scopes are now offering the same.My father wont buy anything but a leupold.Im not afraid to venture outside the box though.Along with my leupolds i have a nikkon and a weaver.I had a leupold on my 870 slug gun for at least 12 years.I sent it back twice because the reticles keep coming loose.Im guessing its cause the gun kicks like a mule. This year i got fed up with it and put a burris on it.Time will tell how it does.I would say the 250-300 hundred dollar range is the begining of a decent scope no matter what the brand.Anything less. You get what you pay for.

Bushnell Elite 3200 is an awesome scope for the money, also Nikon makes good scopes in that price range.

I also use a Bushnel Elite on my .270. Bushnel makes some nice scopes at a decent price. Look for the raingaurd feature.

Leupold, Weaver, Bushnell, Nikon.... I would suggest a 3-9x40 or that 4-12x40 like youngbuck said. All great scopes.
