Remington 770 Pros\Cons

I am looking at getting one of these as a backup rifle.
Any opinions on this model?
It looks just like the 710 just a little revamped.

I've got a buddy with a 770, i own a 710, and a cousin of mine has a 700. I've shot my cousins 700, it shoots well, feels good and seems to be an all around decent gun. My 710 shoots pretty good and has a pretty nice synthetic stock, but the bolts a little sticky. Other than the bolt i got no complaints with my gun. I haven't shot my friends 770, but i did tinker with it a little. The stock feels really cheap, and the bolt ..... some how feels worse than the 710's, since the 770 came out after the 710.... you think they would have worked on that. If i was gona recommend a Remington it would have to be a model 700. You might want to look at Winchester model 70.... thats the next gun I'll be buying when i get a little spare cash. I've wanted one for a couple of years now. I shot one some years back and have been in love ever sense.

If its a low budget back up rifle your looking for I'd say forget Remington and go for the Marlin XL7. Well actually i think Remington bought marlin. Anyways, this gun feels great. Other than the stock which feels kinda cheap, its got a lot of high end features at a great price. Around here its about $299 at an outdoors store.

Never owned one but i've heard and read the same thing on the 710's action being sticky and that some feel the 710 and 770 have a cheaper feel like they are cheap made, most everyone said to buy a 700.

Well the are definitely cheaper made, but the only thing i dislike about my 710 is the bolt, i love the gray synthetic stock. It shoots good, but if someone offered I'd trade it for a Marlin XL7 without a second thought.

Want a good back up rifle? Look into Stevens or the Marlin XL7 if you want affordable. If you want to spend a little bit more, get a Rem 700 or a Remington Model 7 or a Savage.

As the others have mentioned, the 710 and 770 feel cheap to me from buttstock to barrel end. The bolt feels like there is sand in it and it sticks. The stocks are flimsy and you can move it by hand with little force.

I decided to go with the Savage 111 with the accutrigger and scope package.
I didn't want to spend a whole lot on a backup rifle and wanted something somewhat ready to go out of the box
I also have a cheap Stevens 270 (great gun for the price) so I have been happy with the Savage line of rifles
Ordered it today should be here soon.
Then il have to go and warm the barrel up and get it ready for November if its called to duty :D

you can snag the weatherby vanguards for around 400 bones these days at most places. I got a buddy that's got one and it's a really accurate rifle fresh out 'da box!!
