RIFLE ADVICE PLEASE

Postby xxhotcoffee » Wed Nov 14, 2007 8:14 pm

Hi all, I usually hunt with my muzzlloader, but now that I am getting into it, Im thinking I might buy a new rifle to use in modern gun season next year.
I saw on tv that Remington is making a 'Junior Rifle', that I think they said was a step up over the 243? (not sure about that), anyways, Im thinking, since Im a female, and disabled, this might be the rifle for me??
I want something accurate of course, and not too heavy, but heavy enough to not have a bad recoil. any suggestions? or would some other kind of rifle be more suitable to my needs? thank you in advance for the advice.

Another question, it was almost 70 here today, whewww, I know its regulation to wear an orange hunting vest, is there any regulation that you have to wear anything under it? (dont tell the game warden I wasnt) lol
The Sun don't shine, till it shines on me ;)

Well it sounds to me like a .243 might be the ticket for you. I shoot a .270 and love it. The recoil on the .270 is very similar to shooting my TC Omega muzzle loader, with 100 grains of pyrodex.

If you are able, try and find a place where you can try the different models and calibers first.

I shoot a Savage .243 and LOVE the gun for deer. The nice this about the
.243 caliber is that you can go up to a 100 grain bullet for deer, but then go down to a 55 grain for varmints. It's a nice caliber that covers a good range of hunting.

Anything larger than deer though, and it's pretty light.

Hope this helps you out.

My aunt shoots a .243 and loves it. She has never had any trouble with wounding deer, and the gun is light.

I love my .243. Last year on opening day i drop a doe & right behind her, when she fell i saw a nice 9 point buck & i bagged him too!! The .243 is a very light easy to use gun. As always , you need to sight it in to make sure it's on the money.

I won't tell the Game Warden ,LOL

well. 243 works. but i recommend a woodsmaster model 742 .308. Not bad recoil at all. been using it since i was 14. its semi automatic. BUT it is on the heavy side.
