Savage 300 Ultra Mag questions...

Postby Jackson » Tue Nov 20, 2007 11:14 am

Hey all,

I have a Savage .243 that is a really great gun for the money and was thinking about getting a Savage in a 300 Ultra Mag. Anybody have one or have any input on how the Savage compares to, let's say, a Remington 700 in the 300 Ultra Mag? I don't have tons of money to spend on guns, so that's why I've been leaning toward the Savage. Great gun at a great price.

Just looking for some guidance or suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

i've shot the rem 300 ultra mag and i must say at very long distances its an extremely accurate gun for such a heavy caliber.....but unless ur hunting moose or elk u shouldn't need it unless u really want that caliber...i can tell u this if u shot hot wax outta that gun you would still kill deer.....u wont here anything bad about the caliber
U CANT KILL IT IF U DONT SHOOT IT

What do you hunt were you live? Depending on were you live you may or may not need that caliber, if your just looking to have a bigger gun for more power then yea that would be a good gun, but it also may blow a deer in two if you hit them right...

Take a look at the new Remington model 770. My nephew got one for Christmas and those are pretty sweet shooters. Very nice combo.
Keep the tradition alive, teach a kid how to hunt.

Thanks for all the replies fellas. I live in Wisconsin and hunt deer with my
.243 which is a great gun. I've been interested in the .300 UM primarily
for going out west and making the rest of my hunting buddies jealous! :)

Also, I've found that Remington makes the .300 UM rounds in 3 "stages"
of performance. One of which is supposed to act ballistically like a longer, flatter shooting 30-06. If that IS the case, that'd be pretty darn cool.

Thanks agin for all the help and info.
