Seasons?

Postby bow_man12 » Tue Dec 16, 2008 2:51 pm

I was recently pheasant hunting in Southeast Nebraska. I had just started walking in the field when I saw this great big hog running away from me. I didn't know they were in this area. Is there seasons for them? I love hunting its my passion. So I would really enjoy trying something new.

I looked on the Nebraska DNR site and did not see anything on pigs. Up here we can shoot any pig that can be classified as ferrel....
So does that mean if the pig doesnt have a collar it goes on the grill? :o

I found this out there. Hope it helps.

Hunting wild or feral pigs is illegal in Nebraska. It is also illegal to introduce or release pigs into the wild. These laws were passed before there were any significant populations of pigs in order to ensure that there would be no incentive for people to bring them in. Importing or releasing wild pigs to create a huntable population would benefit a very small number of people but would cause serious and extreme negative impacts to most Nebraskans as evidenced by the recent discovery of pseudorabies in a feral pig in Nance County. At the present time we have only 4 small populations that we are working to eliminate. We would not want to promote a pig hunting culture in Nebraska through public hunting as we already have excellent hunting of native species like deer, turkeys, waterfowl, etc. Additionally, public hunting has never been shown to eliminate a population of feral pigs and would likely make the goal of elimination more difficult as pigs are intelligent and will become nocturnal and spread to areas with less pressure. Our approach uses a systematic effort to eliminate all of the pigs in an area without educating them. States like Alabama that have long established populations of feral pigs do not have the opportunity to eliminate isolated populations so they use public hunting in an attempt to control pig numbers. Our laws and efforts are set up to prevent the introduction of feral pigs and eliminate populations before they become established

Kansas has those same laws in place also, by state law there is no season on them, its illegal to hunt them as game and its illegal to bring any into the state.

If a Kansas Farmer/Rancher see's a wild pig or pigs he is supposed to call the Fish and Game and they will either authorize the landowner to kill them and bury them as pests or the Fish and Game will come to that landowners property and put out bait and trap them with nets or even shoot them and either bury or burn the carcasses.

Missouri is begging people to kill them. Hogs are tearing the heck out of Mark Twain National Forrest and they are spreading like wildfire in several other areas. There are some regulations during Deer and Turkey seasons on what can be used to take them,,,if anyone does want to hunt them, do a little research beforehand, the info is online.
