Shooting beer cans.

Postby silvergts1998 » Sun Apr 26, 2009 7:01 pm

I was out shooting my bow with my brother and I let him use one of my bows. He did a great job at 20 yards hitting beer cans. Infact we both did well. One thing I noticed was I could hit a beer can from 20, 30, 40 yards with no real issues. Kind of funny when you actually have an object to hit, you seem to hit it more often than when you are shooting at a black dot.

So true. I guess the fact that the beer can doesn't move towards you, smell you, then look up at you, snort, and then run away...dang ole 8 pointer, I didn't want to shoot you anyway. Maybe the key is that you drank the beer to calm your nerves which enabled you to shoot a smaller target. Maybe drink a beer before going out to hunt...lol

Take that a step further silver and try to aim at one of the letters on the beer can. The smaller the target you concentrate and aim at the better you will shoot. It's a proven method. When it comes time to shoot a deer, pick a rib to break or a hair to split and aim at that one rib or hair.
Keep the tradition alive, teach a kid how to hunt.

I been grouping @ 50 yard about 4.5" circle and the same with 60 yards. 20-30 yards I only shoot 3 arrows in fear of them hitting each other or splitting now. After getting my bowtech admiral I been shooting about 200 arrows per week.

That's great! I'm jealous that you can shoot at 60 yards. I'm able to do about 3"-4" circle at 40 yards, but never tried any further. Where I hunt, I don't think I'd even have a 60 yard shot available, but it would be nice to be able to do. Practice through the summer is great for when hunting season comes. Also, Kwack is right on, that is a great technique for further increasing your accuracy. A few other tips for increasing accuracy don't even involve aiming.

1. Develop a solid and consistent stance which you can hold the string back for long periods of times. This will come in handy when a skiddish deer approaches and he decides to look up at you mid pull.

2. Follow through. Don't drop the bow right away to see where you shot and keep your release hand in position.

3. Don't grip the bow too tight.

4. Control your breathing.
