Shot Plot Help

Postby Sticknstringarchery » Fri Apr 01, 2011 1:19 pm

I have planted a plot that is maybe 1/8 of an acre. I am not so sure its doing as well as it should. PH test shows 7.4. I used Evolved Harvest Shot Plot. It is Turnips and Forage rape. It called for 1 bag per 1/2 acre. I used the whole bag. It called for 150lbs of 13-13-13 per acre. I used 50lbs. I tilled the are as instructed 4"-6" deep, spread the fertilizer, Ran over it with an ATV as instructed, spread the seed, ran over it again. I feel like I am either being impatient or maybe I used too much seed. Anyone have any ideas. Its been 3-1/2 weeks since I planted them.

It sounds like you over did it on everything. You used 3x the amount of seed called for and if my math is right, you only needed 18.75 pounds of fertilizer. To much seed will can cause the plants to fight for nutrients once they sprout and start growing. The fertilizer will "burn" the plants if there is to much. It is probably more fertilizer problems than the seeds though. It has started to grow, so it my come on up. The question I have is, why would you plant a fall plot in the spring?
Curiosity killed the cat, but I was a suspect for a while......
