Shrink-Fletch

Postby NYBuckhunter » Tue Sep 23, 2008 4:36 pm

Here is my review on these that I wrote up when I first got them...

I had a couple of arrows laying around that had torn fletchs on them, and seeing as I dont have a fletching jig or anything like that, I figured I would pick up a set of the shrink fletchs that Ive seen. I got the set with the QuikSpin things on them and put them on. They went on very easy, you just positioned them and then dipped them in almost boiling water for a few seconds and viola! I will take a few pics and let you guys know how they shoot when I try them out. Hopefully they do good and I dont need to invest in a jig or anything to be able to refletch my arrows.

Ok, I finally got a chance to try out the two arrows that I put these on, and Im a little disappointed. I followed the instructions and even took some light sand paper to the shafts to scuff off the coating on the outside. The arrows did shoot nice, the first time. When they hit the target, the Shrink Fletch slid right up the shaft. Not a huge deal because you can slide it back in place, but good luck keeping your arrows tuned to your bow. I am going to try a couple of dots of glue to hold them in place better and then give them another shot. One thing I really noticed is that the QuikSpin does work, the arrows spin alot faster than the arrows that dont have it.

I needed to re-fletch a couple of more arrows, so I figured I would give these another try seeing as I had 4 more laying around. I figured out the trick to them this time, you need to leave them in the hot water way longer than they state. Once I did this, you cant move them. I tried yanking the crap out of them and they wont budge. So now I have 4 arrows set up with them and will shoot them this weekend to see how they do now that they are on right.

I got a chance to shoot these yesterday with and without broadheads, and they are dead on accurate. I now love them. I will get a few pics after I am done putting my home-brew lighted nocks in.

Here are a few pics of my arrow setups with the shrink fletches, lighted nocks and both types of broadheads I will be shooting.

The broadheads are WASP Jak-Hammer SSTs and Spin-Tite Crimson Talon XTs

The fletching looks good,i have feathers and am geting sick of the feathers falling apart. About the crimson broadheads,i used to shoot them when they first came out, they are hard to sharpen and i had two of them shatter when i shot deer.I switched to montec G5's,they are a solid head and i like the way they fly, very smooth.

Yeah the blades on the Crimson Talons wouldnt be that easy to sharpen, but they are easily replaceable, which is what I do. The curve in them tends to straighten out a bit after they go through a deer anyhow, so I keep the old blades for practice.

Very Nice...does the shrink fit stick pretty good? The knocks look awsome.

Yep, they fit great as long as you dont follow their instructions lol. You need to use water that is at a light boil, and leave them in there for a while. You will eventually see a small point at the top of the shrink tube where the final tiny bubbles of air are escaping, once those stop, it is done. If you follow their instructions, they will look nice, but will slide right down the arrow shaft when the arrow hits a target.

I think the nocks look great as well.
