Slugs

Postby hillstfr » Sun Sep 18, 2011 10:47 pm

Folks - I'm going to be taking my Mossy 500 w 24in rifled barrel out for deer season in a couple weeks. Slug recommendations? Please provide your thoughts on quality v value.

Thanks
Tom

Tom,

Try some Remington Buckhammers. They are just as accurate as the more expensive slugs but at 1/3 the cost. While they won't shoot 1 -2 inch groups at 100 yards, they will be close enough to make them worth while.

Thanks for the recommendation. They seem to have excellent reviews and the price is certainly right.

Hey Tom, If you want a great slug for gun season I would HIGHLY recommend K.O. slugs. I have shot many deer with them throughout the years. I would highly recommend these because they have a special feature resulting in increased accuracy. The feature that makes these slugs so accurate is the wad. As the slug comes out of the barrel the wad usually detaches from the slug(in regular ammo), but on the K.O. slugs the wad stays on. This feature greatly improves the accuracy. Plus the slugs are super cheap. And they can be used in smooth or rifled barrels.

PS: K.O. is made by Brenneke, and check them out you won't be dissapointed.

Have a GREAT hunt!!!!!

As long as you have a fully rifled barrel, It's hard to go wrong with any of the sabot slugs - I use Hornady SSTs through my H&R single shot. Excellent performance.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I had a successful season this year (took a nice doe - would have had more if I had had more time to get out) using the Buckhammer Managed Recoil slugs. Accurate and knocked the doe down where she stood at 50 yards and she was dead in <2 mins. I suspect I'll take them back out to the field next year, but I am always interested to hear what folks are using.
