I read an article on that a few years back. The key was to burn wood, not cigs. Here it is listed on another site.
Cover/Masking scents:

The cheapest and quickest way to help mask your scent is to get in the habit of continually rubbing the leaves and plants in your hunting area against your clothes. Continually reach over, pluck some leaves grind them into your boots, pants, shirt, and hat. Pine, Cedar, Fir, and Sage give off a very pungent odor which will help mute your own scent.

Wash your clothes separate from your household clothes in commercially available scent elimination soap, baking soda, or other “soupâ€

I have noticed on my farm that when we burn brush piles and johnson grass,,,the deer get curious and come investigate that night.
