Some bowhunting questions for Vermonters. (Or anyone else)

Postby m2244 » Tue Sep 22, 2009 9:23 am

I have been hunting for nearly 30 years in Vermont. (20 seriously) My 2 young sons are getting more an d more into it. I feel more pressure to be successful in their eyes. Anyway, I have a few questions for discussion.

1. Have you had more success in the AM or PM in VT?
2. How often have you found a spot with a lot of tracks but never seen a deer there during legal hours.
3. What things do you look for when scouting? Most important?
4. When not seeing animals do you get discouraged and maybe not hunt as hard as you were in the begginning of the season?
5. Have you had more success early in the seaon or later.
6. How late do you sit in the morning?

Thanks for the tips. Good luck this year.

If you want to be more successful in your sons' eyes, hunt somewhere other than Vermont!!! I'm not being sarcastic here....... Vermont has the worst whitetail deer hunting in the U.S. There's a reason why so many serious deer hunters in Vermont hunt somewhere else.

Good luck hunting Vermont. Do you do bow or gun or both?
I hunt Vermont because I have a camp and 60 acres.
Turkey hunting is great. We have fun partridge hunting also.
I deer bow hunt early season until Mass bow starts. I won't even go up for gun hunting anymore. The deer hunting just plain stinks in Vermont. Get your sons involved with turkey hunting. My son just shot his first bird last spring and loved it. He shot his first deer too but that was in Mass.
