Sometimes it just doesn't go as planned

For those of us who enjoy the pursuit of the little critters too.

Sometimes it just doesn't go as planned

Went out for yotes. Had something happen that has never happened in all the years of hunting them. We set up on the edge of a huge greenfield. Had one come in and bust us.(wind). He ran out in front of us. between it being dark and the speed he was running had a heck of a snap shot on my hands. Got the crosshairs on his head. Pulled the trigger. He spun around like a good hit. And was gone before I could get off another shot. Walked over to look for blood. On the ground there was blood and hair. After closer inspection I found something I couldn't figure out what it was. Then I realized i had shot the dawgs ear off. He will be easier to pick out of a crowd I guess.

If they are running, the body is a bigger target. If you dont hit them in the kill zone, you still hit them in the body and they will die. If you hit him in the ear and was aiming at his head, then you could have hit the lungs and would have a dead coyote to take pics of and a pelt to show off.
Curiosity killed the cat, but I was a suspect for a while......

True. I try to shoot most of them in the head or shoulder. If they are farely close I go for the head especially with the shotgun. At long range I go for the shoulder. And with bow lungs.
