I have a tikka T3 300wsm.I first tried federals out of it and they werent all that great. Then i figured since it is winchesters cal. I should try winchester loads. They shoot pretty good for me.I sighted it in with 180 gr ballistics cause i bought it when i went elk hunting.I then shot a couple of deer with them and boy did they do a number.I plan to try some 150 grain bullets but for the price of those things ill wait till i run out of the 180s

Remington Express ammo in 150grain PSP Core lokt is supposed to be outstanding with that Remington 700 in 300WSM.

If not I would wonder if you have a scope mount problem or maybe even consider taking it to a gunsmith and have the gun checked out.

150 gr Ballistic Silvertips are the ones that have been most accurate for me. I got a winchester model 70, and I love it.

300 WSM load

Postby Falconry » Sun Jan 04, 2009 10:17 pm

I have a Browning A-bolt S/S in 300WSM I'm reloading for. I've used Varget, and then H414 for 165 grain Barnes TSXs. Went to Hornady SSTs because of the cost. The SSTs are a little tighter for groups too;the Barnes were good for under an inch at 100 yrds so I can't complain. Remington brass, CCI mag primers, and 64.4 grains of H414 do a good job for me. I haven't chronographed the load, but I'm guessing 2980 -3010 fps. I like the 165 grain bullets because I can load for both the WSM and my 30-06. And yes the WSM is a little harder hitting, SEEMS to be quicker with the recoil too;more snap than push. I do have some IMR 4350 I want to try out here in the next few weeks. 4831 and Win 760 (factory loading powder for the WSM) seem to pop up a lot on reloading sites too. I think if I went to 180 grains the 4350 would be best. I hunt both deer and elk, and would not hesitate with a 165 grain quality bullet for either species or either of my guns.

300 WSM

Postby NTPastorAaron » Wed May 20, 2009 6:21 pm

I have the same gun, went through some of the same problems. I found that the scope kept getting loose on me. I removed the scope, added some blue LocTite to the threads and re-assembled. Seems to have stopped any movement. I reload for my 300 WSM, so, I am able to try many different combination's. One improvement I made was to nick trim the cases to get them concentric with the bore, bullet. I also am using a bi-pod and shooting off the ground for target shooting. Brought the grouping down from about 1-1/2" to .75" for a 3-shot group. I also installed a Timney as the Remington factory trigger was very heavy. The new trigger is nice, smooth. As soon as you think about squeezing, it is done. :D :D
