Texas hunting help

It looks like we wont be deer hunting this year since it seems there is no public land in Texas and the leases seem extremely high priced. What about hog hunting tips? We just moved to San Antonio from Missouri and my son and I are going to try and find a spot to bowhunt hogs. Is the best practice to hunt them under feeders? Am I wrong - are there any public hunting spots for deer?
