The Great Rush Debate

Postby KwackWacker » Wed Mar 10, 2010 3:14 pm

NYBuckhunter says Rush Limbaugh is a drug abuser, DouglasSpear says he went to rehab and is no longer a drug abuser. This thread was started so they could have a place to duke it out. Have at it boys...

My personal opinion of Rush aside, alcoholics and substance abusers are taught in rehab that they have a disease that you can never really be cured of. So alcoholics who have been to rehab refer to themselves at times as recovering alcoholics. Same with drug abusers, they are recovering addicts. To continue to call him an abuser isn't necessarily correct, however saying that he has served his time and is recovered isn't technically correct. He did the right thing and went to rehab. Good for him; he recognized he had a problem and he took the steps to solve it. But he is a recovering addict and no one can deny that, not even El Rushbo.

I have to agree with KwackWacker. I have listened to Rush since 89 and can tell you he was honest with his listeners about his addiction to pain pills. He took 5 weeks out of his life to address the problem and has moved on. But some people just can't let go. I have found that there are essentially, two type of people out there who seek to resurrect this issue. Those who hate him for what he believes in and look for any opportunity to demonize him and those who have little or no exposure to his show.
I think we can all agree though, that since this is a deer hunting forum, that alone should unite us in our interests. We have enough to worry about with politicians, activists, lawyers and the like trying to limit our chosen form of recreation. When we decend into pointless debate about a talk show host, my fear is we look foolish to our enemies. What we share with Rush Limbaugh is, that we are targets of people who want to limit our freedoms. I'm new to DHC but I've been around the block.. Thanks for letting speak my peace...

Actually, I am a conservative and have a ton of exposure to Limbaugh's show. My father has been listening since I was in middle school or longer. I can remember listening to him in the late 80s or early 90s. I find the man to be more of an ultra right wing talking head than a true conservative. Kinda like Glenn Beck or Michael Savage. All 3 have their niche audience and do well selling their respective brands. Hes the first one to call people out on things, so whats the problem calling the kettle black. Like I said, addiction isnt something you get over, you are always working on it.

BTW, he was far from honest about it. If he was honest, he would have come out and said something before he got busted buying illegal pills. He only admitted to it because he got caught.

I can not comment on Mr. Limbaugh's matter,or status because I have never followed him or this matter. As far as an addiction, my opinion on this matter. Is that one can beat it into remission but the addiction still remains and one runs the risk of a flareup. But this is just my humble opinion. :D
