THE NERVE!!

Postby bambeklr » Mon Sep 28, 2009 10:35 pm

Well, I pulled my card 0n the 24th and I was amazed that I only had 500+ pictures. I knew somthing was wrong. Sure enough. I had put corn out on the 19th and on the 20th I had a man standing on my corn pile. To make things worse, he walked right in on the trail all the bucks are using. That is a small peice of woods. And wouldnt you know it, I havent had a daylight picture of any of the bigger bucks since. I am so mad. I have put all of this time and money into this one spot and partucularly one buck. Now i am not sure if the man is going to hunt in the woods or not. That woods is not our lease. But i am thinking now that he is going to try to setup not far from the trails heading to my bait and cut me off. Not knowing that he has even screwed me royally. I am even more worried that he will be in there trying to hunt the states doe only days that are coming up this weekend. I will be riding up and down the road that day hoping to catch a glimpse of him parking and try to talk some sense into him without letting him know that there are a few big bucks using in there. I am just so mad I could scream!!!!!!!!!!!! I will post the pic's later.

Well if its not private land then its everyones 'legally' and anyone can hunt it.

I would indeed talk to him but be civil about it and tell him you have been watching the land and set up the baiting station (if baiting is legal) and that you have a picture of him walking in that area you have prepaired and planned to hunt there for your deer hunt and ask him if he will he do the right thing and find somewhere else to hunt.

It doesn't mean that he has to do so but most guys that are asked decently would agree to 'back out' of the area and find some place at least a 1/2 mile or so distance away from you.

You need to be civil though, if you get heated on him he may get mad and become vindictive and hunt just out of your bow range and there's nothing you can say or do if its govt land.

I'm surprised to read here where people put up and leave cameras, stands, feeders on public land for extended periods of time, its very likely to get your stuff stolen by someone just walking the woods and sold on Ebay or Craigslist and there's nothing you can really say or do about it. JMOpinion

My corn pile is on my 260 acre private hunting club. He was standing on my lane looking at my corn pile. And walked right on top of it down the deer trail back onto the other property. The adjacent woods that the deer are coming out of is the land that isnt my place. My corn pile isnt far from the prooperty line. I have hunted that spot in that corner for 16 years now. I really wouldnt be near the property line if what we are hunting wasnt all cut down. The lanes are all we have.

Ahhhhhh, sorry but for some reason it sounded or I got the idea you were on public property in your first post, I didn't know that he was on your clubs private property.

I would still be civil about it but approach him and inform him that he was photographed by club cameras on your clubs land and that he needs to stay out.

I would also keep the photo's of him on your land on file in your pc just in case you have problems with him going through your land again in the future or if things do come up missing.

In PA where I hunt, our 25 acres butts up against state game lands. About 50 yards into the state game lands there is a huge rock that has a smaller rock behind it to sit on, facing the state game land and up the hill to our property. The nice thing is, my back is to a steep hill which leads down to the creek. But, all this is to explain that I call it "Doug's Rock" even though it is state game land. The point I am hinting to is, if I get there first, I can hunt there. So just get there before him and the spot is yours.

Ya know Bambeklr, i had the exact same thing happen to me. I specifically didnt visit one of my stands on our 120 acres. I waiting till Nov. 6th to hunt it for the first time of the year (great during the rut) only to pull my camera card after the first sit there and see a guy wandering around. Nothing like leaving your scent all over. I was TICKED!

well.... from experience all I can say is that usually people that do these sorts of things are not locals....and most people once told to stay away usually do. We have a problem every spring with people picking wild garlic. Its usally pretty easy to bust these people since they park on the road. But when you are far in the bush it gets harder. You have to be careful how you approach someone who is trespassing...you never know. KH
opportunity is often missed because it is in the form of work.

Hey this guy was working or at least acting like he was. If ou look at him closly you can see he is holding a yellow thing in his hand. It looks like the magnetic locator I use every day for land surveying. It picks up property corners really nicely. He looks like a surveyor too.

Thats exactly what i figured as well. Point is he was still putting his scent back there. Just sucked overal. Dont really blame the guy for doing his job... just unfortunate for me. I was hunting a few days after he was walking around back there out of that exact spot :/

Yeah that sucks, I do agree with that.

I just thought it was funny because I saw the pic and knew exactly what he was doing.

It looks pretty clear to me the guy knows what is going on there,,,most respectable hunters would move on without a moments thought. As far as his scent,,,dont worry about it,,the bucks will be back.
