Exactly, also to add to that a person needs to make sure they join for the right reasons.

In recent years before I retired from the military I saw more and more people that the only reason they joined was for the big cash bonus or for college tuition instead of joining out of a feeling that their country needed them or a sense of belonging in their family or comunity.

Naturally those people quickly became bitter, upset and blamed the govt and even Bush when they found that instead of getting to stay stateside after their training was completed and attend night classes at college like they had planned on uncle sam's bill that they would instead be getting deployed for a year or longer.

People like that only have themselves to blame.

Thats your opinion, not a fact. Nice way to dance around the fact that you havent supplied anything to the debate except your opinion, and the 1 fact that the enlistment age is up to 42.

Open your eyes and see for yourself, apparently its all around you but you are choosing not to see the good, only the bad.

Well afteral, nothing like sitting on your butt and getting handouts from the govt. MMMM please, spread the wealth. I'd love for my hard earned dollars to be spread among the population.

What have we accomplished in Iraq?

PS: The enlistment age is still 42.

One word... Democracy. Which is also one of the reasons I believe we shouldn't pull out. Iraq does not have a stable enough democracy to support themselves as of now.

I take pride in knowing that 99.5% of people in the US are too fat, lazy, ignorant, or scared to join the military. I am the 1/2% that pulls the country's weight.

Well, as so many times happens, a political debate spun out of control and didn't stay on topic. Feelings got hurt and people started name calling, some of which was done through private messages. This thread has run it's course and is now officially closed.

Some you members may have noticed that SuperJ has now been banned. I'll tell you now, it wasn't due to his political beliefs or his comments here. He was banned for comments and actions made through a PM to a moderator here.
Keep the tradition alive, teach a kid how to hunt.
