The Rut is on Boys!!!!!

Postby baysider » Fri Nov 12, 2010 8:16 am

Last Saturday i saw some rutting activity in the woods. Lots of scrapes, rubs, and elevated deer movment. This week to and from work Ive started to see does running across fields, bucks chasing does, and even a few buck fights near my house. This weekend should be the peak of the rut. Come on 5 o'clock!!!!!!!!!! 8)

Good luck and be safe everyone.

In some ways ...it's a shame that the tailgate drops tomorrow, those same deer you saw this week will be all wired up after tomorrow. Don't get me wrong,I enjoy a good deer chase as much as anyone.....but when the rut is a thing of the past  just my $.02

Hunted in the morning saturday only. Had to pay some dues to the wife and take her out after this past speckled trout season and duck season starting this week. Only scared deer going into the woods and didnt see anything from the stand. Left the stand about 9 and changed out a single to a double man stand. Got back to the truck and saw an eight pointer, a 12 pointer and a doe in the field. The 12 was chasing the 8 away from the doe. They never fought in the field but it was an mazing site. They never came closer than 200 yds and with no rifles in that county they were safe. They are still showing signs of the rut but it is slowing a bit.

So far we have gotten 2 eight pointers, a five (cull buck), and 3 does. Still time for the big boys but the doe management time on the farm has started.

Good luck and be safe everyone!

I shot a 7 point On the 17th @ 715AM , He was a few minutes after a doe with nose to the ground hot on her trail. His neck was swollen and showed several fighting wounds on the face and ears. Whalleyville VA. I belive the rut will continue through the week in this area.

I was duck hunting this past saturday but the fellas still hunted my farm for deer. They saw 2 small bucks a 3 and a 4 pointer fighting. Bucks were still on the move but i didnt see any on does. Looks like it might be winding down for us. Especially with the pass of the full moon. Im hunting on the eastern shore.

The 3 pointer didnt make it (cull buck) and another doe was killed.

yup same here. They will still be a bit stupid for another week or so. Grunting and rattling will still work for some. Going to give it a shot either friday or saturday.

Headed out tomorrow, going to Suffolk. I was down there last week and there were a lot of scrapes and rubs. I am hoping that the rain this evening and the cold snap that will follow tomorrow will be of a help. I will post pics if I get anything tomorrow.

i was out on the property sunday scouting...only found 2 fresh scrapes. Not alot of deer activity after opening day of rifle season in my area. Set couple cams out ontop of scrapes in hopes of catchin big boy on cam then setup on him! I will be heading out tmw to hunt one of the active scrapes..

Hoping this front moving in and less moonlight will heat things up a bit. Saw a pic of a deer killed in Buckingham this week. A real brut.
