This City Slicker Wants to Hunt (New guy new to hunting)

Postby Czar Peter » Thu Dec 02, 2010 12:41 pm

Hello, Gentlefolk
As my topic reads I am new to hunting completely, but it does understate me in ways.
While I previously was more of a city boy, I am no stranger to weapons, cold woods, or blood - I was in the Marine Corps. for 4 years, am well versed in rifles, and was a firefighter/EMT. I want to learn to be as much of a self-suficient man as much as possible - for I have a family to provide for soon.
The things that I am interested in learning are how to: hunt game (mainly deer, but I am not limiting myself), learning hunting and traping laws, utlizing weapons I am unfamiliur with ie scopes and bows, preparing and cooking and storing meat, treating animal pelts - idealy leaving the fur on, and any and all outdoor things that I can learn. I do not delude myelf to think that I will become Chingochgook in a couple of years - but in 20 I can try to be a Grizzly Agams.
I am 30 and live in the Stafford area (but my beloved and I are looking to move north). Anything that that can help me get started by pointing me in the right direction will be greatly apretiated.

For starters I would look into your states basic hunter safety course. It will be required to buy a hunting licencse in just about any state. Then u can look into some other "advanced" courses.I know Delaware has some such as bow saftey, trapping, deer management, turkey saftey, etc.
