TRESSPASSERS

Postby chris lavoie » Wed Sep 29, 2010 9:16 pm

I bought a peice of land in 2006 to set up for whitetails. I immediatly burried a row of fence posts, about 40 of them. Before I got to putting up the wire, my poles were stolen. All they left were the poles that said " NO TRESSPASSING ". Up to 2009, It seemed everytime I had the sites going perfect, people started driving the feilds on the property, spooking the animals. Sites would go dead. In 2009 I hired a back hoe to dig a 3' trench across half the field that was accessable by trucks. Last year it worked. About three weeks ago (2010) they started driving atv's to my sites. Right past my " KEEP OUT " signs. Does anyone have ANY unique (legal) IDEAS how to keep them out???

If there were any way to find out who they are, I'd say make a deal with them. Allow them to do certain things in certain areas, but not where you want to hunt. I say this because a lot of times, pushing too hard makes bad things happen! I say this from experience.

Are you sure you put the poles up on your own property?

I was just joking with you Chris. There's no easy solution to that problem. But personally I'd call the ppolice and see if you can catch them in the act so you know who it is. But I would not confront them directly.

I knew you were joking! The OPP actually hung crime scene tape up when the poles were stolen and the culprits just atv'd right past the tape. I think we fixed the problem today.

I'm interested to learn what happened, can you tell us more?

I bought 40, 8' t' bars and cut them in half. I pounded the 4' foot peices into the ground to the point of not being able to pull them out. I put them 3' apart so atv's could not get through. I flagged all the bars so no one would would run into them. Now I have a 200 foot 3' trench and the rest of the frontage with bars. Today I noticed someone tried to access the land with an atv but they were unable to. I also told a CO what I did and all he asked was "what about their tires". I said "OH WELL". Also I put NO TRESSPASSING tape every 20 yards.

You might try talking to you local law enforcement and see if they can pursue charges if you put up a trail cam and get pictures of them going past the no trespassing signs. Or even see if you local conservation agent will help you deal with it.

On a remote piece of private land that I have, I noticed a moultrie trail cam and a bait in front of my stand. I took the chip and erased the images right away as I carry my digital camera on my side. I turned the trail cam off and left it in place on the tree. I left a note that said the camera will be gone by Friday if it was still in place. I thought I would try and be nice about it instead of getting mad. I know who it is. I hope it works!!!

Tresspassers can now do what they want on the acreage I had trouble with as I sold it to some hunters yesterday.
