trinity alps deer

Postby brush buster » Sat Jan 30, 2010 9:40 pm

I have been hunting the trinity alps wilderness for several years (bow and gun) with limited success. I have hunted several different areas but most only have a few deer. I backpack so i am limited to how far in i can go. Any suggestions to check out? I am as interested in getting away from most hunters as i am about a lot of deer (although both usually go together).

You have to be able to cover ground. Scouting the few days before the season in the alps is the most inportant. The deer will move with mountain lion pressure along with human pressure. I to hunt the alps region in the wilderness and found that the deer like to hang out in drainges and mostly feed in the evenings. I like to hunt above where maybe another group is hunting because it seems to me that deer when pressured will hug one side of the ridge above where they think the threat is. Hope maybe this helps. Also may try down the salmon river farther less pressure and lots of water and feed
