Typical Buck Fever

Postby ronmc1954 » Tue Nov 29, 2011 4:30 pm

I have to share me bow hunt that I went on yesterday (Sunday 28th) I got into to my stand at about 3:00pm It was a gourgeous afternoon, I almost over dressed it was 45 or 50* I am sitting in the stand with high hopes of seeing deer they always start moving about 4:40pm. Well 4:40 rolls around and nothing, as I am sitting there the local farmer comes into the area with a tractor and is only 100 yards from my stand, of course I am thinking there goes the hunt. Well he does not stick around long so I am still hopeful. At 4:50 a nice little 3x3 walks into my line of sight. I am thinking ALRIGHT!! So not to spook him I am waiting for him to look away so I can turn towards, he is still 55 yards away but I am getting ready. Sure enough this little buck looks to the north giving me a chance to turn towards, I am thinking this is good, right? WRONG!! This little buck looked to the north alright but he was looking at the BIGGER buck the was poking his head around a tree and of course this 4x4 big body deer was looking right at me, which I did not see :( Of course after that all I saw was white tails waving goodby.
I was so focused on seeing antlers even small ones I did not look anywhere else, talk about tunnel vision.
Bad part is I was told that there was 2 bucks bedding down in a draw that was just up the draw behind me, so I should have been aware that there could have been another buck.
Needless to say I was cussing all the way back to the truck that night. I am sure this has happened to a lot of us, I just thought I would share the story.
I will know better next time,,,I hope!!!
