Unbelievable Gut Shot

This past Sunday I made an extremely poor shot on a doe. The shot clipped the bottom of the stomach and on follow up I discoverd it's entire abdominal cavity lying across a branch low to the ground.(see pic below) What amazed me was the fact that we tracked this deer for another 600 yards through incredibly thick brush and found the doe lying in some palmetto still alive!!! I immediately finished my poor job.
In over 20 years of hunting I have never seen a deer keep on trucking like this one did with such a brutal injury.
Has anyone else ever seen or experienced this before?

I have never seen anything quite like that....Pretty surprised that she made it 600 yards. What kind of broadhead were you using?

Deer are tough little buggers. The other morning I shot a doe a little high, it dropped her and left a baseball sized hole. Anyway, I proceeded to light up a victory smoke and when I was finished I started to climb down and she stood up and walked away. I couldn't believe it. She went about another 100 yards and layed down. When I walked up to her she was still alive so I shot her in the head. Anyway, thats a testament to the toughness of deer.

No broadhead, I shot her with a 338RUM.

I have never seen that field dress technique performed. Im glad you were able to make the recovery and finish your hunt. You can never underestimate a white tail deer.
