VIRGINIA - HUNTING SPONSOR

Postby mihahawk » Tue Oct 27, 2009 5:48 pm

I am a Slovenian ARMY Colonel spending a year in Virginia and attending National Defense University in the D.C. My wife, son and I, we are all hunters. We have with us also dog Aro, he is still young (7 months) but he is already chasing a game.
Some years ago I have been in Kansas and did a lot of hunting there. Here in Virginia it is much harder to me to link with some local hunters or land owners. (Seams no hunters in the D.C.). We are residing in Annandale cty VA. We found some WMAs that are on driving distance but I don’t know if it is any decent hunt there.

I would appreciate any support…information, hunting invitation, advice, offer of land to hunt and so one.

We are interesting about any kind of a hunt from the varmints to the bear. We are also interesting about places to train our dog. He is Austian breed Brandl Brack. He is supposed to chase hare, fox and also big game…deer, hog, bear. We have our weapons with us.

Welcome. First, I recommend that you contact the district Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries office, which is in Fredericksburg, VA (540) 899-4169 and they can help direct you. Also, Virginia requires anyone hunting for the first time to have taken a Hunter Education course. The game department can direct you there as well, or you can access and read about requirements at http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/ and then access the education area. Hope this helps.

Thank you Turf!

We found Quantico as the best solution. Have been hunting there for rabbits once (does not find one) and deer twice. My son got one year old buck
I think i went through state regulations so I am comfortable with. I have Kansas hunting safety course from some years ago. And Virginia solution of apprentice licence works well for my wife and son.

Wish you good hunting!
