I was told not to set my pins at 15 yards. I was told it was a waste to do that and to just keep it at 20, 30, 40, 50 and maybe even 60 yards. Anyone else do the same or different?
What they told you (I assume at the bow shop) is generally correct for the new fast bows.
The newer bows of probably the last 5yrs shoot so fast and are very flat shooting trajectory so their arrows don't drop hardly any at all out to that 20yd point so there's no point in a 10 or 15yd pin.
You can always check the point of impact difference on your new Admiral between 10 to 20yds by pacing off 10yds and then use the 20yd pin that is set and you will likely see zero or very little difference in point of impact.
Older compound bows that are reletively slow are only good out to about 40yds max and because the arrow flies so much slower the trajectory falls much more quickly so on old bows most people like on my PSE would set their sight pins for each 10yds (10, 20, 30, 40).
One thing I would stress is to do a lot of practice at the longer distances before you shoot at game with the 50-60yd pins, just because the bow has those pins and is capable doesn't automatically mean that you can do it. If you are prone to getting shakey with buck fever or you are hunting in heavy cross winds, etc it can really throw off the accuracy at longer ranges.
Again congratulations on the Admiral, you are making me want one really badly. LOL

I think mine are set at 10 (or 15), 20, 30, and 40. I do need new sights though, I accidentally broke one of the glow sticks on one of my pins last year. Oddly enough, I used that pin to shoot my deer last year, so the pin was brown, not green, red, orange, or yellow.

I have my pins set at 20,30,40. Like BH said, start at 10 and shoot a couple of arrows at each distance in 5yd increments(10,15,20,25) until you see your arrow drop out of your spot on the target. My spot is 3" and I can get to 27yds before it falls out of the black circle using my 20yd pin.
Curiosity killed the cat, but I was a suspect for a while......
I like to set mine right behind the shoulder about half way up from the bottom of the chest. GET IT?!?! No? Okay, mine are set to 20, 30, 40 ,50 and 60 althought those last two only get used on the paper or foam rubber deer.
Keep the tradition alive, teach a kid how to hunt.
KISS priciple, Keep It Simple Stupid. Alot of the times the more simple your hunt is the better it goes/funner it is. Some of the most rewarding hunts Ive had and some of my better success's have come from simple hunts/last minute hunts.
