Broadheads

Postby RemingtonMan » Fri Feb 29, 2008 6:30 pm

I have used Thunderhead and the new Rage broadhead that came out. The rage by far leaves a very wicked entry and exit hole. I would have to go with rage.

I really dont have one that I use all the time. If I did, it would have to be NAP Spitfire 100.

I went with the Spintite Crimson Talon XTs this year after giving up on mechanicals and they work great for me. They fly straight as can be and make a wound that is really big and very nasty. Huge blood trails, even though my deer only went 30 yards before she fell. You could see the blood spray out of the wound as the arrow went through. Ill be sticking with them from now on.

I use quite a few different heads. But the one I have shot the longest is the rocket sidewinder. It is a 1 1/2 inch expandable. I have never had bad luck with these heads. I have killed close to 80 deer with them.

I was really excited to go out and try the new Rage 2 blade... after reading some comments on some other forums, as well as a few on this forum, i dont think i'll be doing that. I havent read enough positive feedback asside from all the Drury boys using them. :(

The boss is a great flying head. I jkust like a little more cutting diameter. They are to small for me. But they group very well.

Most of the time Thunderheads 100gr, Muzzy 100gr and this year i am going to try the new Rage 2 blade. The blades are easily replaceable if they dont get all busted up.

Tried just about everything currently shooting Wac-Em Broadheads out of the testing I've done these seem to be one of the quietist broadheads.

This is very true tony. If I didnt test broadheads for someone I would still only shoot the sidewinders. I never liked how some fixed heads plain out of a fast bow. But this year i tried the trophy ridge bunker busters and I was impressed. They fly with my field points to the tee. All the way out to 70 yards. I just havent shot them any farther. I am sure they would fly just fine past that.

MUZZY 100 grain, if it isn't broke, dont fix it. Never had a reason to use anything else. Nice, compact...puts down a nice bloodtrail and the deer never run too far as long as the shot is put where its supposed to be.

I was looking at some slick tricks today at bow shop. The owner said he shot one into a broadhead target 5 times and it still shaved hair. Supposed to fly just like field points. Any appinions on them?

I bought slick tricks this year. The owner at the bow shop ive gone to for since i got into the sport said i should really try them out. Havent shot a deer yet with them. Im really interested to see how they are and the blood trail they leave.

rage brodheads! i gotta question about the muzzy...do u have to sight them in diff than FP? Thats what i heard, i also heard they fly kinda weird or is this just another stupid rumor someone started cuz they screwed up a shot on a big buck?
why pass up a 2.5 year old? Because next year he will be a 3.5 year old.

I currently shoot the 3 blade muzzy and YES you need to sight them in they fly noticeably different than fp at 30 yds. I also shoot blazer vanes which could have a little to do with it. I heard the slick trick are dead on with fp accuracy but it was a bow shop salesman, but he swears by them and he even showed me his quiver which had 5 in it.

From tests that I have seen on the net, Muzzy's fly like FP's until you start exceeding 270fps. It is really noticable the closer to 300fps that you get. My bow is tuned and shooting at 258fps and my muzzy's fly true. I havent personally witnessed the 270fps deal, but I trust the people that I have been told by.

my first year hunting i used the g5 montecs, i am trying the rage 2-blades this year for the first time. tho every deer i shot with the montecs was a complete pass through even though i only was shooting 41 pounds at the time. including when i shot a doe square in the hind quarters.. still a pass through. they also leave good blood trails :D

Muzzy 100 gr 4 blade. Over 50 deer since '01 cant be wrong! Viper Venoms 100 gr 4 blade have me curious though. Bow's 48 lbs and shoots around 250 fps. Muzzys shoot different then field points for me. Have to sight in for them if your going to try them. I just skip field points all together and shot Muzzy's year round.

Used to use the Razorback 5's but since they aren't around anymore :( switched last year to the Rage 2 Blade and haven't had a problem on 5 deer. All dropped within 45 yards of the shot :D
