What kind of light do y'all use?

Postby schunter » Fri Oct 09, 2009 7:44 pm

Hunting in the evening has it's downside... You have to trail in the dark! I have one of those 6 inch mag light, and was wondering what do everyone else use.

Do you have a blood tracking light? Or a power QBEAM that lights up the entire woods? or just a regular around-the-house flashlight??

I use LED headlights. One is white or red and the other is green. I use the green one walking in and leaving and the white one for trailing and around camp.
Curiosity killed the cat, but I was a suspect for a while......

Yep, I bought a multi LED (5 bulb) light that clips onto the brim of my camo ball cap, it puts out enough light for walking and the batteries last a long time.

I do also have a mini maglight on a belt holster for emergencies, we used them in the military for some years before they showed up at stores, they put out a ton of light.

I always have a small mag light in my pack....but... can't remember the last time I used it in the woods. I usually walk in and out in the dark without a light.

Coleman lantern is hard to beat for trailing. I have a Gerber bloodtrailing light that works good for blood trailing. For walking to and from the timber in the dark I use a LED headlight that has a normal beam, red beam and the 3 LCD white light.

What kind of light

Postby BaDaBing » Sun Oct 11, 2009 5:30 pm

Coleman lanters can't be beat. But we have switched over to a flash light that emits a white light, we feel this is better for trailing blood at night. We use to use the Mag Light but it emits a yellow light and blood is much harder to see at night. I really like to try and get in without a light if possible. The lights that clip onto the brim of your hat have gained in popularity.

We always use a light during the dark hours. Alot of our hunting properties are "exclusive" but for safeties sake we use'em. They'll save ya a poke in the eye/fall too etc.

For walking in of a morning, i dont normally use light,,but if i do its red LED. For tracking in the dark,,as a rule i normally am walking out atleast 15 minutes before dark,,hunting my way out, but if i have to i do have a blood tracking light. If it will be dark before i return with an atv i leave a cuyalume light stick on the deer to ease finding it.
