I'll agree with carnivore, a .22's the way to get started.

i agree. a .22 is the best cal. to start wil. you can learn marksmanship for a very cheap price.

I'd recommend a bolt action 22 it would help make you a good shot and make your shots count instead of rattling off rounds w/ a semi auto.

GOOD LUCK

i think if you did get a semi-auto, a ruger 10/22 with open sights would be my suggestion. you can add a single power scope later. on my 10/22 i could take the scope off by turning a couple of screws, for open sights, then put it back on when i wanted to use it.

My first .22 single shot taught me that. Was an old Stevens bolt gun given to me by my grandpa. Don't have it anymore...but have his singleshot Stevens Little Scout. It's a rolling block that shoots as good now as it ever did. I'll grab it up before my auto anyday. Shot my first coon out of a tree with it when I was a young lad. Head shot...fell graveyard dead. Nope...don't need a .50 to learn one shot...one kill.

His ole mother probably shot down that idea of getting one...made him stay off these type sites and join PETA. Poor kid.

I ahve a little Marlin Golden 22,sweet little lever action gun.Got about 25 years ago and the only thing I ever had to do was replace the little part that keeps it from trtying to load 2 rounds at once.5 bucks and it was fine. Its had no telling rounds fired thru it and new I paid about 200 bucks for it,now the same gun,THe Marlin,39A is about 450 bucks,if not more.
Want my ammo?Ok,stand downrange.
