What type of rest?

Postby Max » Tue Apr 08, 2008 9:04 am

I need some education on arrow rests.

On my old compound bow I have a flipper rest and I'm looking to upgrade. I've been hearing talk about the fall-away and the whisker biscuit.

What do you guys perfer and why? If you perfer something different, by all means chime in.

A WB is good for total containment. Your arrow wont fall off no matter how you turn the bow. You lose some fps due to the contact with the WB bristles, but I dont think that the deer will notice. You will need to put super glue on the leading edge of your vanes so that the WB doesnt pull them off.

A drop away lets your arrow have the least amount of contact with the bow during the shot. You may gain some fps by not having friction from contact like you do with the WB. There are several companies that make drop aways with an arm that is above the rest which allows you to have containment similar to the WB. The containment isnt as tight, but you wont drop your arrow if you tip the bow.

If you go with a drop away I prefer the drop zone or the trophy ridge trophy taker. They are both really good rests. If you go with the wisker biscuit, You cant go wrong with it if its for hunting. It is a wonderful rest. I shoot a dropzone for competiton and use a whisker biscuit for hunting.

Id go with the QUAD ultra rest you cannot beat it and I think its the best out there. If you shoot 3d with a whisker biscuit your arrow fletchings will tend to wrinkle up and wear out pretty fast. I would go with an ultra rest.

I have used drop away rest in the past and thay are great. I myself use the WB for the total containment of the arrow. Never had one fall off the rest yet
The drop away rest will almost always have better groupings than the WB.

I use a trophy taker SHAKEY HUNTER. It is a drop away rest. It also is contored so the arrow doesnt came out easy. Now they also have a line that is full containment also!! I will post a pic of myne. They reduce almost all of the torque you can put on your bow when shooting, thus tightening your groups. Ase soon as you hit the release there is nothing coming into contact with your arrow.
Here is the one on my bow
