Where to set up after 1st week rifle has past

Postby WvMuzzyman » Sun Nov 27, 2011 9:28 pm

I Need suggestions of possible set up locations for tomm, the beginning of the 2nd week of wv rifle season. Where i have hunted the first has been producing less deer walking by,by the day. Monday( the first day) I seen 16 deer. Tuesday, I seen 11. Wednesday I seen 8. It's like, where did the deer go? They wasnt many killed of the land. It is private. As the week went by, my stand produced less and less. Should I be in the fields, hardwoods, or hunt the thickets??...I'm confused haha.

I am having the same issue in Illinois. The first shotgun season, I hunted a corner of property that was mainly open field with a treeline to my left, a treeline "finger to my right, and a creek behind me. I focused on this area because it was during our rut. Now, I couldn't tell you if the entire rut passed or not...our weather has been really screwy this year. My plan is to hunt some land with a lot of cover. I feel that now since the first gun season has passed, the deer are more weary, especially in open field. It is CRP property with some very tall grass surrounded by hardwoods. I'm guessing security is what they are looking for right now. Hope this helps you in WV.
