Let me say that I have a 25-06 and it is a capable deer caliber and I like shooting it quite a bit. But if I was going to pick between the 2, I would pick the 30-06 for a variety of reasons. First, I think the 30-06 is a much more versitile round especially for big game hunting. Also, ammo is more plentiful and generally less expensive.

THANKS MAN!
DOES THE 30 06 SHOOT THE SAME DISTANCE WISE?
I HUNT ON ALOT OF FARMS THAT ARE NOTHING BUT OPEN FIELDS
SO HAVING A GOOD LONG DISTANCE GUN IS WHAT I NEED.

Hey MB --- I've shot a 30.06 for 25 years and it'll do anything you'll ever need it to do. I've shot deer as close as 10 yds and as far away as 350. If you sight it in right and do your part, you'll never be disappointed in the old naught six. :)

i dont own a 30-06 but ive shot some. i think it is a great cal. and vary versatile like ngineer said. you can hunt big game other than deer with it. use different grains for different animals and get the same results. but i also think a 25-06 is a great cal. you just cant do as much with it. and they both shoot long distances.

30-06. Walk in any Mom&Pops anywhere in the USA that sells ammo and you'll see it. Can't say that for the other. Will do the job at any range the average joe is capable of shooting at.

I own a 30-06 and love it but have also shot a 25-06. I agree w/ everyone else the 30-06 has alot more versitility and knockdown. However it also has more drop than the 25. This year i dropped a buck at 385yds w/ one shot from my 30-06 you just need it sighted in right and also need to compensate for the drop.

Both are great rifles
