Wildfires

Postby bstevensa » Fri Sep 09, 2011 12:08 pm

Ok I belong to a Club and I am given an "Area" . Well this past week Wildfires have burned thousands of acres, includeing my "Area". I am getting mixed reviews on whether or not the deer will still be there come hunting season which starts in 3 weeks. I have always thought that the new "Green" growth that pops up after a burn like this was something deer would be all over. I am hearing though that this may not be the case and I should consider moving to another area. I guess I should mention that my area and one other area are the only areas that were damaged by fire. There are other places I could move to and hunt but I cant decided if I want to stay put or move to greener woods. I see sign of deer everyday but im not sure if they are moving around like normal or is the sign from them moving on. I lost my trail camera during the fire and have not replaced it yet. Im sure a new camera would answer a lot of these questions but I wanted to get feed back from here. Please let me know what yall think

Wild fires are very benificial in creating new natural food sources for whitetails (browse), bears (blueberries) and moose. Of course it might take till next year. It is also a great way to rejuvenate an old forest. Here they routinely have controlled burns where logging is not allowed. In Ontario, clear cuts are very benficial to our wildlifes natural foods.

I agree with the above post... while you may be in the doghouse this year due to the fires... it will ultimately create new under brush and browse, both of which deer love! I think it'll end up working out in your favor at the end.
