Welcome to the sport, PA ---- most of the major manufacturers make short axle, short draw length bows, and as long as you get one that fits you (the guys at the bow shop can help) most any bow will do. I'm partial to Reflex, but some of the guys and gals in here shoot Mathews, PSE, Pearson, and others. It's really just a matter of personal preference.

Now, to answer your other question --- chasin' deer with a bow is a lot different than with a rifle. Some of the basics are the same, like watching your wind direction, hunting where the deer are, locating feeding and bedding areas, etc. But remember, you've got to get a lot closer to kill one with a bow, and in my opinion, you need to practice more with a bow to become ethically accurate. Starting slow, practicing a LOT, and shooting 3-D can help calm "buck fever" nerves when you finally do draw back on a live critter. :)

Yea, what T-Bird said!!! I can tell you also that the feeling of taking a deer with a bow is WAY more a rush than taking one with a gun! There is more of a challenge so, practice practice!!! You need to know that you are ready when you go out that first time with a bow!!! T-Birds advice was excellent but, I would like to add one thing. Practice on those 3-D targets from up in a stand, or however you will be hunting. Try to create the same senario that will happen in the woods. Learn the different angle shots to the kill zone! Everything changes the higher up and futher away you are!!!

also dont be scared to ask the bow shop if you can shoot it. most bow shops have a shooting range so customers can try out the product before they buy it. if they wont let you shoot it there see if you can bring it if you dont like it after you take it home and try it out. just my 2 cents worth.

If your looking to get a new bow take a look at a browning micro adrenalin (What I shoot.. Very Very good bow) or a Reflex excursion (Planning on getting this one i have heard alot of good about it and it looks good to besides for the price you cant beat it) Both will run you about $279.00..

Depends on how big you are too. I'm 15 6'2" 220lbs. i shoot an adult bow. Go to a store and find an old guy to help you. My experience is that older guys love to help us kids get started hunting almost as much as they do themselves. That's how i got my B-E-A-utiful Image Martin Savannah Longbow.
